Signing a docket · For anyone asked to sign
You have been asked to sign a docket
What the docket is, what you are confirming by signing it, and what happens next.
Somebody who has done work for you has asked you to confirm it. Either they have handed you their phone on site, or their office has emailed you a link. This is what you are looking at, and what happens when you sign.
What you are signing
The docket lists who worked, on which days, the hours each person did, and anything they used, such as stakes or a drone flight. It shows no prices at all. Rates are between their company and yours, and they belong on the invoice, not on a page you sign.
By signing, you are confirming that the work listed was done. You are not approving an invoice.
Signing on their phone
The work is listed under What they are signing for, with the total hours beside it.
- Read the list and check the hours. If something is wrong, say so now and do not sign until it has been put right.
- Put your name in Signed by. Check it is your name; it may be filled in from the last docket.
- Add your email under Their email if you want a copy. It is optional.
- Sign in the box with your finger, then press Sign. Clear starts the signature again.
It works with no phone signal. The signed docket is stored on the phone and sent to their office when the phone next has reception.
Signing from an emailed link
- Open the email titled Please sign docket and press Review and sign.
- Read the list under Work done and check the total hours.
- Under Sign to confirm this is correct, put in Your name. Your email is optional, but it is how you get a copy.
- Sign in the box with your finger or mouse, then press Sign this docket.
The link works once and lasts seven days. If it says it is no longer valid, ask whoever sent it for a new one. If the page says the docket has changed since the link was sent, it was withdrawn or signed another way after the email went out; ask for a new link.
What happens after
If you gave your email, a copy of the signed docket arrives as a PDF — when signed on a phone, once that phone has reception. Replying to that email reaches the person who raised the docket.
The docket records your name, the time you signed and the work you signed for. That is the point of it: it is a record both companies can rely on later.
